Winter BreakGreen Tips

Student Staff

  • Buy recycleable wrapping paper
  • Reuse gift bags, ribbons, bows, etc.
  • Use energy efficient lighting for decorating
  • Whenever possible, buy local (food and gifts!)
  • Avoid food waste
  • Avoid single use plastics (silverware, cups, plates)
  • Don’t Forget!! Shut off all lights and non-essential equipment  in your labs and offices before you leave for the holidays!!!

Lookout for a Green U and Reuse booth at the medical campus farmers market starting in 2018.

  • Get info for sustainable practices on the med campus
  • Donate unwanted items instead of throwing them out

If you want to go “green” in the workplace, apply to the Green Office certification program and get a basic training in Sustainability: Recycling, Energy conservation, Water conservation, Green purchasing and printing, Nature conservation, Green outreach and leadership.

UMMobility Options

You can receive benefits when you return your parking permit!

Employees using an alternate transportation in lieu of parking on campus will receive the following benefits when retuning a parking permit:

  • Discounted transit passes (Metrorail) based on salary scale.
  • If you bike to campus you get free access to showers at the Wellness Center.
  • 8 daily parking passes.
  • Flexibility to park on campus during Winter, Spring and Summer break.

- UBike – Need your bike repaired? Join UCycle on select Sundays is at the Rock on campus for basic bike repairs. Ride with UCycle for group rides on select days during the month of December.
