In this update, we'd like to share some resources to help prepare for Fall 2020 teaching, including the recently shared guide, Preparing to Teach a Hybrid Course and additional live events. 

 

HYBRID TEACHING

Preparing to Teach a Hybrid Course

GUIDE: During the Fall 2020 semester, many UM faculty will be running their courses in a hybrid mode with some students in the classroom while others participate remotely through videoconferencing. To prepare faculty for this new model, we have created a guide for preparing to teach a hybrid course that is specific to the University of Miami's plans for social distancing.

LIVE DISCUSSION SESSIONS: In this session, we will discuss aspects of the guide and answer questions that you may have about its recommendations or areas that are specific to your courses. If you have questions about teaching in a hybrid mode, register to attend a session led by Allan Gyorke, Associate Vice President for Academic Technologies, Assistant Provost for Educational Innovation and Chief Academic Technology Officer.

 

SUMMER LIVE WORKSHOPS

In addition to the Techniques for Online Teaching, members of the Learning Innovation and Faculty Engagement team have prepared additional workshops, including technical demonstrations and core considerations for syllabus design. For all upcoming events, view on the UM events website.

Techniques for Online Teaching

The Distance Learning Institute in partnership with Academic Technologies are currently leading the final sessions on Techniques for Online Teaching, to support University of Miami educators in preparing online courses for the upcoming academic year. Register for the remaining sessions.

Syllabus Development

This session will cover how to prepare an effective syllabus for online and hybrid teaching including writing learning goals and outcomes; developing a course schedule that includes in-class and online components; inclusive statements; course policies and student expectations including maintaining academic integrity. Using Digital Annotation Tools for Instructor Feedback

This workshop will focus on using digital annotation tools to provide rich, frequent, and timely feedback to students. Our discussions will center on three platforms, in particular - Blackboard Annotate, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Drive - and will be driven by examples and demonstrations. Using Digital Annotation Tools for Student Collaboration

This workshop will explore, through a variety of examples and demonstrations, how digital annotation platforms like Hypothesis and VoiceThread can bring a collaborative component to many of your course activities. Register to attend this session.
