Major Gift for the Jay Weiss Centert

The Jay Weiss Center for Social Medicine and Health Equity received an inaugural gift of $1 million from Sheryl and Barry K. Schwartz. The co-founder and former CEO of Calvin Klein Inc., Barry Schwartz was a close friend of the late Miami philanthropist Jay Weiss, for whom the center is named.

“Jay was one of my dearest friends and the most philanthropic person I have ever known,” remembers Schwartz. “We wish we could all be like Jay.”

The center’s mission is to reduce health disparities and to ensure access to quality medical care in South Florida and abroad. A central component of the mission is to educate and develop leaders and practitioners in the area of social medicine and global health.
