UM DOCTORAL STUDENT EARNS TOP HONORS
FROM PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION

Jennifer Braswell, a student in the Division of Physical Therapy's graduate program, received the prestigious Patricia Leahy Scholarship from the Foundation for Physical Therapy and the Neurology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. The scholarship is awarded to physical therapists who have completed at least two semesters of their coursework toward a doctorate. Braswell's studies focus on pediatric vestibular rehabilitation and the effect of visual motor exercises on vision deficits related to postural control.

TECHNOLOGY TRAINING CENTER AT
UM/JACKSON OFFERS MICROSOFT TRAINING

Gain a better understanding of your computer and its applications through classes at the Technology Training Center. Course offerings include Microsoft Access, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Introduction to PC/Windows 2000, and Internet Explorer. These courses are provided on a monthly basis free of charge to University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital employees, and various levels of classes are available. HEALTHY WITH WEIGHT WATCHERS

Summer is here, so what better time than now to join Weight Watchers? The next session begins May 28 and continues each Tuesday in ACC West room 128, noon to 1 p.m. The eleven-week program costs $118 for new members and $105 for renewals. A program of weekly small-group seminars on topics that pertain to the protection of human subjects in research continues May 28, with "Investigational New Drug Applications," presented by Maria Arnold, director of the Human Subjects Office, noon to 1 p.m., at the Mailman Center, Room 3023. SAVE THE DATE FOR INTERDEPARTMENTAL
DISCUSSION OF SPIRITUALITY IN MEDICINE

Join the Behavioral Science Program of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, along with several other disciplines, for an Interdepartmental Academic Day to address "Spirituality and Medicine." A primary aim of this conference is to help physicians and other health care workers discuss and learn about the beneficial uses of spirituality in medical settings, such as pediatrics, ob/gyn, and addiction psychiatry. Robert Schwartz, M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, and Carl Eisdorfer, Ph.D., M.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, will be among the members of a faculty panel that will address spirituality. The event will be held May 29, 8 a.m. to noon, in Jackson's Diagnostic Treatment Center, Room 270. No RSVP or registration fee is required, but please arrive early. WINE TASTING TO BENEFIT ONGOING
RESEARCH AT THE MIAMI PROJECT

Swirl, sip, and swish for a good cause at a special wine tasting presented by The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. "Raise a Glass for a Cure" will be held May 31, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., to benefit the Miami Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis in support of ongoing research at the Miami Project. LEARN TO BE A BETTER SUPERVISOR
DURING THREE-WEEK TRAINING SESSION

"Fundamentals of Supervision" is a three-session program, presented by the Office of Professional Development and Training, that will teach you important policies and procedures, address personal liability issues, and provide you with a valuable reference manual. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the three classes. The first session, "Employment Policies and Procedures," is scheduled for June 7, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the McArthur Auditorium of the College of Engineering, Room 202W, at the University's Coral Gables campus. "Performance Appraisals" and "Progressive Discipline," will be held on June 11 and 13, respectively, both from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the same location as the first session. CENTER FOR CUBAN STUDIES INVITES YOU
TO A NIGHT OF MUSIC AND CELEBRATION

Join the University of Miami's Center for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies to celebrate the centenary of the foundation of the Republic of Cuba as they welcome renowned pianist Zenaida Manfugás to the Gusman Concert Hall on the Coral Gables campus.
