DEAN CLARKSON ADDRESSES HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE ON IMPORTANCE OF MEDICAL SCHOOL/VA RELATIONSHIP

John G. Clarkson, senior vice president for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, recently appeared before a House of Representatives committee on behalf of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dean Clarkson addressed the House Veteran's Affairs Subcommittee on Health, testifying on the critical importance of VA academic affiliations and the VA research program. Citing the efforts of both the VA and medical schools to ensure quality patient care, research, and education, Dean Clarkson emphasized the need to preserve the productive relationship between the country's medical schools and VA institutions.

DR. ALLAN MCLEOD APPOINTED LIFE HONORARY MEMBER OF DCMA

The Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) honored Allan McLeod, M.D., professor and director of quality assurance in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a life honorary membership on National Doctors' Day 2001. Each year, the DCMA honors select community physicians for their contributions and dedication to quality health care in South Florida.

Last year UM had a record 431 participants and the women's, men's, and co-ed teams claimed first place in the Educational Division. This is one of the year's biggest events for University employees.
