to join the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Hurricanes will begin play
in the ACC in 2004-2005. President Shalala and Athletic Director Paul Dee spoke

EARNS INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
At the recent World Congress on Nephrology held in Berlin, the Division of
Pediatric Nephrology received accolades for its research initiatives. The
division was awarded Best Poster for “Use of Mycophenolate in Severe
Lupus Nephritis,” and Best Oral Presentation was presented to Carolyn
L. Abitbol, M.D., professor, for her abstract on “Obesity-related Proteinuria
in Low Birth Weight Infants.”
ANNUAL REPORT FROM DRI RECOGNIZED BY
NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATION
The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) and DRI Foundation received top honors
from the League of American Communications Professionals for their joint
annual report, “Turning Hope into Reality.” The publication earned
the Visions Platinum Award, the highest rank, in the Educational/Non-profit
category and was ranked 54th among all categories nationally. For more information
