ANNIVERSARY ALBUM
**********************
Learn fun facts about the School of Medicine’s history every two weeks, as e-Update presents the latest in a special series commemorating our 50th anniversary.

Established in 1969 under the direction of Dr. Arthur Weiland, Miami’s first orthopaedic surgeon, the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation has grown to become a primary referral center for tertiary care throughout the Southeastern U.S. and Latin America. The discipline had its beginnings at the School of Medicine within the Department of Surgery as early as 1957, with Dr. Wallace F. Miller leading the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. Today the department offers clinical services in children’s orthopaedics, hand and microsurgery, joint replacement, orthopaedic oncology, rehabilitation, spine surgery, sports medicine, and trauma. It is led by Dr. Mark D. Brown, who has served as chairman since 1986.
