FTAA SUMMIT
As you know, an international summit to discuss the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas is being held in downtown Miami this week. Thousands of people are expected to participate in demonstrations, mostly on Thursday and Friday, and School of Medicine security officers are monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of employees and patients. Plan to avoid downtown Miami during the conference, and be aware of any street closings that might affect your route to work. The School of Medicine will be operating normally. Jackson has been designated as the care site in case of any protest-related injuries, but that should not affect our clinical operations. There may be extra security officers around our campus, and we ask that you have your employee ID badge with you at all times. The School of Medicine’s Rumor Control Hotline – 305-243-6079 – will provide emergency updates if needed.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE TODAY
The need for blood always increases during the holidays and today you can help. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow, you’ll be able to donate blood in the student lounge, second floor, RMSB. Tomorrow you will also be able to give in the mobile unit in the UM/Sylvester courtyard. All medical employees are encouraged to donate – besides, you get free cookies and juice!
