HEALTH FOUNDATION BOOSTS FAMILY
MEDICINE RESIDENCY TRAINING RESOURCES

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health recently received a grant from the Health Foundation of South Florida to purchase video recording equipment for residency training at the Jefferson Reaves, Sr., Health Center. Residents will be filmed during their encounters with patients who have given their consent to be on tape. Using the videos, residents will be able to assess their interviewing skills and how they communicate with patients. The videos will then be reviewed by the department’s behavioral medicine specialist for further feedback to the residents. The national Residency Review Committee requires that residents be videotaped during their training so they can better learn proper patient communication skills. This teaching tool will also be available for UM medical students who rotate through the health center.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY INSTITUTIONAL

For guidelines and application forms, contact Dorothy Mills at 305-243-6292 or dmills@med.miami.edu The deadline for receipt of applications is October 1.
