TIME MANAGEMENT SEMINAR
The University of Miami Employee Assistance Program is offering a lunchtime
seminar on effective time management this Thursday, August 14. The training
will emphasize setting priorities and goals, decision-making techniques,
strategies for identifying time wasters, and more. The seminar is from noon
to 1:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge. Please

HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH AND PATIENT PRIVACY
The Human Subjects Research Seminar for August focuses on Research HIPAA Requirements,
from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26. Maria Arnold, director of the
Human Subjects Research Office, will lecture on the changes in research since
new patient privacy rules took effect in April. The seminar will meet in
room 3023 of the Mailman Center. Advance registration is required, by e-mail,

INFO-ED INACCESSIBLE DURING UPGRADE
The University of Miami is receiving an upgrade to the entire InfoEd system
through Wednesday, August 13. The InfoEd system includes a variety of data
management tools for researchers and administrators, including SPIN, SMARTS,
GENIUS, and Proposal Tracking. None of those tools will be accessible until
the end of this week. For further information please contact Patty Atkinson

CALL FOR PAPERS ON ANXIETY DISORDERS
The Anxiety Disorders Association of America is announcing a call for papers
beginning this week in advance of its national conference in Miami this spring.
The 24th Annual Conference of the ADAA will be held March 11 to 14, 2004,
at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami. The deadline for submitting individual
and group presentations is September 5, and submissions of new research posters
are due November 21. To download a submission form or for more information

Is there a difference between feedback and criticism? Come and participate
in a seminar that focuses on understanding the difference between the two this
Friday, August 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fifth floor conference
room of the McKnight Vision Research Building. We receive feedback and
criticism from multiple sources including co-workers, supervisors, and
loved ones. Although it can be difficult to digest the feedback
we get from others, this seminar can help you learn how to put it to positive

END-OF-LIFE CARE TRAINING
OFFERED AT UM/SYLVESTER
Victoria Bustamante, Psy. D., and Rev. Gary Bennett, B.S., of the Courtelis
Center for Research and Treatment in Psychosocial Oncology at UM/Sylvester
Comprehensive Cancer Center, will give a lecture on grief and bereavement at
the end of life in the SCCC 1301 conference room on Tuesday, August 19. The
lecture is for health care professionals only and lunch will be provided. To

TYPE 2 DIABETES SEMINAR TO FOCUS ON BASAL/BOLUS INSULIN THERAPY
Faculty and staff of the University of Miami School of Medicine and Jackson
Memorial Medical Center will lead a program called Practical Tools for Glycemic
Control in Type 2 Diabetes: Basal/Bolus Insulin Therapy on Saturday, September
20, in Orlando. Presenters will focus on practical tools for glycemic control.
The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westin Grand Bohemian Hotel.
