SPEND A DAY AT THE BEACH TO KICK OFF
UNIVERSITY’S 2002 UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN

Join the University of Miami in lending a hand (and a paintbrush) for a good cause at the 2002 United Way campaign kickoff event. This year’s project will take on Haulover Park on Miami Beach for an “All Over Haulover,” this Thursday, August 15, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help plant palm trees, repair and install picnic benches, paint lifeguard stations, restore the beach’s dunes to prevent erosion, and more. On the day of the event, medical campus volunteers will be picked up from the Diabetes Research Institute (in front of Miami Subs) at 7 a.m and returned to the same location. If you would like to join the University’s team of volunteers, get approval from your supervisor, then contact Allison Gillespie at 305-284-1821 or unitedway@miami.edu. You also can get more information on this project and others in this year’s campaign at http://www.miami.edu/unitedway.

CONFERENCE ROOM SCHEDULING CENTRALIZED
WITH NEW ON-LINE CALENDAR PROGRAM

Effective August 12, the Department of Facilities and Support Services will launch its campus-wide, on-line conference room scheduling program. This initiative will allow authorized employees to reserve and approve the use of conference rooms throughout the School of Medicine campus. In addition to centralizing the scheduling of medical school conference rooms, the system also will record the rates of use for each room. To review the latest news, issues, policies, and guidelines regarding this new program, visit the Department of Facilities and Support Services on-line at http://facilities-supportservices.med.miami.edu. If you have any questions or would like to obtain training on the system’s software, contact Marcelo Bezos at 305-243-2840.
