ATTENTION SUPERVISORS: IMPORTANT
INFORMATION FOR BIWEEKLY TIMESHEET 2R01

The biweekly timesheet for period 2R01 (May 21 – June 5) does not include the standard hours for the Memorial Day holiday. In order to ensure that your biweekly employees are paid for this holiday, they must cross out the hours for May 26 in the “Sched. Hours” column (shaded in green) on their timesheets and input the hours in the “Sched. Hol” column. Verify that this has been done when timesheets are signed.

HUMAN RESOURCES ANNOUNCES
PAY SCHEDULE FOR MERIT INCREASES

Merit increases for employees paid biweekly will be effective at the start of the June 6 to June 19 pay period and will be paid on June 26. Merit increases for employees paid monthly will be effective June 1 and will be paid on June 30. 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recently granted national honors to the School of Medicine for its 50th anniversary celebration. The school received a Bronze Medal for special events in the national CASE Circle of Excellence Awards competition, which recognizes a series of activities and publications relating to a year-long event.

COPING DURING TIMES OF WAR AND VIOLENCE

The Employee Assistance Program's seminar Coping in These Troubled Times will be offered on the medical campus June 5, 12:30 to 2 p.m. Participants will learn to recognize the impact of war and violence, identify signs and symptoms of stress, develop methods for coping, and access useful resources. LEARN TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM VIOLENT
CRIME AT WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE COURSE

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, three out of four women will be the victims of violent crime during their lifetime. Sign up now for the S.A.F.E. National Self-Defense Institute Program and learn the skills to protect yourself. The course will be held June 9, noon to 1:30 p.m., and will teach you how to reduce your risk, avoid dangerous situations, and use simple strategies that can help you avoid being attacked. You also will learn techniques to save yourself if you do become a victim. The registration fee is $5 and the deadline for registration is June 5. Call Zelda Calvert at 305-243-3209 to enroll.

ENJOY TIMELESS MUSIC AT CONCERT
SERIES TO BENEFIT UM/SYLVESTER

The Cellar Club of the Biltmore Hotel presents the Nostalgia Concert Series, with proceeds to benefit the UM/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Sponsored by Southern Wine & Spirits, the concert series will be held June 12 – 16, featuring Leon Russell (June 12), The Turtles featuring Flo and Eddie (June 13), 5th Dimension (June 14), The Little River Band (June 15), and Rita Coolidge (June 16). All shows begin at 9:30 p.m. and will be presented “nightclub style” with limited seating in the Biltmore Hotel's Country Club Ballroom. Tickets to each performance are $75 for preferred seating, $65 for general seating, and include a complimentary wine bar. RENOWNED OPHTHALMOLOGIST VISITS
BASCOM PALMER FOR ANNUAL LECTURE

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute presents the Robert Haimovici Lecture for residents, fellows, faculty, and alumni of the Department of Ophthalmology, as well as community ophthalmologists. J. Donald M. Gass, M.D., professor of ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University, will present “Superficial Retinal Hemorrhage in Patients with Macular Drusen: An Early Sign of Occult Chorioretinal Neovascularization and Chorioretinal Vascular Anastomosis” on June 19, 6:30 p.m., in the institute’s Retter Auditorium.
