CENTER FOR RESEARCH
IN MEDICAL EDUCATION
RECEIVES SUPPORT FOR ANTI-TERRORISM PROGRAM
The non-profit organization Friends For Life has pledged to raise $1 million
in support of the Center for Research in Medical Education (CRME) for its
initial development and implementation of an anti-terrorism curriculum for
EMS and hospital-based healthcare workers. Planning already is underway at
the center's Division of Emergency Medical Skills Training (EMST) for a 16-hour,
hands-on, scenario-based course that will focus on operational and medical
care issues related to incidents of terrorism involving biological, chemical,
incendiary, explosive, and nuclear weapons. Through nearly 30 years of support,
Friends for Life, a volunteer organization of women and men with five chapters
in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, has raised more than $20 million
for School of Medicine programs. The organization also has been a dedicated
supporter of the CRME's emergency training programs. With Friends For Life
support, more than 6,000 learners--including thousands of paramedics who answer
911 calls for millions of residents throughout Florida--are trained each year
through the center's EMST Division.
