HEALTH FOUNDATION GRANTS FUNDS TO PEDIATRIC MOBILE CLINIC

The School of Medicine's Pediatric Mobile Clinic will continue its mission of providing primary health care to the community's underserved children, thanks in part to a recent donation from the Health Foundation of South Florida. Through the United Way of Miami-Dade, the foundation donated nearly $200,000 to the clinic, whose services include complete physical exams, medications, immunizations, and vision and hearing tests free of charge. Initially founded to provide relief after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the clinic sets its sights on addressing the unmet health needs of Miami-Dade County's children who live in poverty.

DR. JEFFREY RASKIN NAMED TO CYE MANDEL CHAIR IN GASTROENTEROLOGY

The first faculty member to be named to the Cye Mandel Chair in Gastroenterology is Jeffrey Raskin, M.D., professor in the Division of Gastroenterology. A generous supporter of the School of Medicine, Cye Mandel was a South Florida businessman and philanthropist, as well as a patient at the medical center for many years. Dr. Raskin serves as co-director of the School of Medicine's training program in gastroenterology, director of endoscopy training, and medical director and chief of endoscopy at UM/Jackson. An active member of numerous organizations within his specialty, Dr. Raskin has served as president of the Florida Society of Internal Medicine and the Florida Gastroenterologic Society, among others.

HUMAN RESEARCH SUBJECTS ARE TOPIC OF WEEKLY SEMINARS

A program of weekly small-group seminars on topics that pertain to human subjects will continue through July 31, noon to 1 p.m., at the Mailman Center for Child Development, room 2023. Upcoming seminars include "Adverse Event Reporting," presented by Stephen Richman, M.D., on July 24; and "Emergency Research," presented by Michael Novo, Esq., on July 31. MOUNT SINAI SCHOOL OF MEDICINE HONORS UMSM DERMATOLOGIST

Anne Burdick, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Dermatology, was a recent guest of the dermatology faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. The medical school's dermatology department presented Dr. Burdick with the Samuel Peck Teaching Award, in recognition of her commitment to quality medical education.

SPACE STILL AVAILABLE FOR GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

Ferne Labati's one-day shooting camp will be held August 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Knight Sports Complex on the University's Coral Gables campus. The camp is designed for girl's 7 to 17 years old, and instructors will teach proper shooting techniques for the jump shot, foul shot, and three point shot. The price of the camp is $85, and UM faculty and staff receive a ten percent discount. Call the Women's Basketball office at 305-284-5802 to register.
