Dear Student,

As we shared with you earlier this summer, all students—whether living on or off campus—are required to abide by our public health guidelines and policies related to wearing face coverings and refraining from hosting or attending large gatherings where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

At this time, events like house parties, large dinners at restaurants, and other similar events simply cannot happen. Any student not following the University’s stated policies and guidelines will face serious conduct action including the removal of privileges to come to campus and suspension from the University.

Although classes have yet to begin, we have already received reports of off-campus events that are contrary to our public health directives. This is not who we are at the U. The recent happenings are being investigated and participants will be made aware of consequences if found in violation of our policies and guidelines. If you are aware of or witness unsafe behavior, we encourage you to submit a report—anonymously if you wish—to our ’Canes Care for ’Canes team.

As a reminder, specifically for off-campus students, we ask that you:

  • Complete the daily symptom checker via the University of Miami mobile app or a web browser every day that you come to campus
  • Refrain from hosting or attending social gatherings and events
  • Observe local curfew mandates
  • Wear a face covering as mandated by University and governmental policies
  • Designate a roommate to serve as a public health delegate to help encourage and support your healthy decision making

We continue to trust you to make good decisions to protect yourself and others, but please be aware we will enforce a zero-tolerance policy for behavior that does not conform to safety guidelines. Our ability to remain open for the fall semester rests with you and your decisions.
