I am delighted to announce that Dr. Edward Abraham has been named executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UHealth, effective January 1, 2018.

Dr. Abraham, who began as dean of the Miller School of Medicine on July 1, 2017, has been serving concurrently as acting executive vice president and CEO since September 15. During his three-month tenure, he has focused on transforming key areas of the health system and strengthening our position in today’s dynamic landscape of health care delivery, research, and education.

The challenges facing the health care industry are national and numerous. Dr. Abraham has been diligent in steering our dedicated UHealth team through changes to ensure stability and strategic focus. He has already made progress on a clear path to improved patient access and experience. He has overseen the final steps in transitioning the health system to a single hospital license, and he has restructured the medical school’s research strategy. In order to recruit and retain top talent, he, the department chairs, and the faculty, have spearheaded the approval and implementation of a new faculty compensation plan to ensure that salaries are competitive locally, regionally, and nationally. All of these improvements are the result of hard work by many of our faculty and staff in the UHealth system.  Thank you for your continued service to the hospitals, clinics, and institutes our patients rely on for top quality care every day.

As executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UHealth, Dr. Abraham will continue to be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the health system, reporting directly to me. I intend to work very closely with him and his leadership team to ensure that we firmly position our institution to face current and future challenges on strong footing.  Dr. Abraham will continue to serve as dean of the Miller School of Medicine until a new dean is named. We will start the search process immediately and will provide further information as it progresses.
