Dear University of Miami Community,

Our community knows intimately the devastating impact of a powerful storm. We have all been closely following the stories of the thousands of people affected by Hurricane Harvey, including students and alumni from the region. Thousands of individuals and families have evacuated their homes, with countless in need of shelter, food, water, and basic necessities.

It is in times of great need that our collective spirit can make the greatest difference. Financial donations are needed most at this time. Here is how you can help:

  • Give to the Red Cross. We are collecting donations online and at the football game on Saturday.
  • Donate to the United Way. Make your online gift to support Operation Helping Hands.
  • Reach out to the Butler Center for Service and Leadership to get engaged in helping the affected community. Email leadandserve@miami.edu for more information.

Additionally, Dr. Barth Green, who is executive dean for Global Health and Community Service and oversees emergency response on behalf of UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine, has reached out to all major hospitals in the Houston area to offer our coordinated assistance if the need arises.

The impact of this storm will be felt for a long time. Let’s work together to make a difference in the lives of those who need us most.
